The new executive sedan measures approximately 5,500 millimeters, or 216 inches, in length. This dimension positions the vehicle squarely in the territory of the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. BYD is preparing to introduce this ultra-luxury electric model with its global debut scheduled for the United Arab Emirates. The company has not yet released a specific calendar date for the launch event.
The vehicle represents the largest and most opulent electric sedan in the manufacturer's history. It targets a market traditionally dominated by established luxury marques such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce. This move marks a significant strategic shift for a company that built its reputation on affordable transportation. The Seagull, a small hatchback sold for under $10,000 in China, remains a staple of its earlier portfolio.
BYD has expanded its product lineup over the past several years. The company now offers a range of vehicles from entry-level electric cars to three-row flagship SUVs and pickup trucks. The structure includes three distinct sub-brands: Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang. These operate alongside the Dynasty and Ocean families under the primary BYD name.
Yangwang serves as the top tier of this hierarchy and showcases the company's latest engineering. Previous models utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which generates 1,300 horsepower. Those vehicles also featured the DiSus-X intelligent body control system. This technology allows the car to perform maneuvers such as dancing, jumping, and driving on three wheels.
Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of Yangwang, confirmed the launch location this week. Last month, he released images of the new sedan undergoing testing. Although the prototype was disguised, its silhouette matched the proportions of high-end executive sedans. Zheng Yu, the executive general manager, stated that the car will feature unprecedented disruptive technology. He did not provide specific details regarding the new systems.
Several technical details have emerged from recent observations and reports. The sedan was displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting support for megawatt flash charging. It is the first BYD model to use rear-hinged coach doors. Reports also indicate it will be the first vehicle to utilize the company's solid-state batteries. Stella Li, executive vice president, told Carwow.es last month that the first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027.
The official debut is expected to take place this month. Rumored pricing starts in the 2 million yuan range, which is equivalent to approximately $300,000. This price point places the new sedan well above Yangwang's current offerings. The U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000.
The Yangwang lineup also includes the U8 and U8L plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUVs and the U9 electric super-coupe. The extended U8L is currently the brand's highest-priced mass-produced vehicle. It starts at 1.45 million yuan, or about $217,000. The new flagship sedan will sit at the top of this range.
